Most IT managers tell us that they never seem to have sufficient storage. Whatever capacity they plan for their systems the users always manage to use it all. Additionally, access to data is so vital to today’s business that storage must be as resilient as possible. So how are these two requirements met?
There are a number of storage technologies available such as Direct Attached Storage (DAS), Network Attached Storage (NAS), Storage Area Networks (SAN) and various others including Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) which build-in automated archiving to near-line and off-line storage (eg. optical and tape respectively).
SAN’s are typically used in conjunction with a storage virtualisation suite to facilitate on-the-fly expansion of file-systems, on-the-fly reassignment of file-systems to hosts,
and management control over I/O traffic volumes.
Storage subsystems may also be “cluster ready” and usable in failover configurations.
JAD Logic has the in-depth experience to advise you on your options for IT storage.
