id7's tape-by-wire takes disk based replication a step further by addressing backup specific requirements and emulating off-site procedures and unlike standard disk replication, tape-by-wire preserves virtual tape format and barcode information ensuring that the backup applications catalogue remains consistent and accurate, allowing for swift complete or individual file recovery over WAN.

Clone2tape

For many applications a physical copy of the original backup is required for safekeeping or archive purpose. id7's module interlocks with the central site and allows a replicated backup to be migrated to physical tape without any user intervention.

 

By preserving the original application format and barcode information individual files or complete backups can be restored directly from physical tape.

 

Mixed applications

It is not uncommon for an organisation to implement different backup applications at different stages in its growth, meaning that there is often not any single standard throughout all locations. When running autonomously this has no day-to-day impact and for many works adequately, but when centralising backups, a standard unified application is generally required. Recognising this as a difficult and costly migration, the RM2 was designed to operate equally well within such mixed environments and is fully ably to manage, centralise and clone2tape regardless of the application.

 

It's all about recovery!

Today all of us are under pressure to implement aggressive recovery objectives. For this reason, as well as standard recovery options, the RM2 incorporates unique remote assignment technology which ensures data can be accessed immediately from the central site connected via WAN without having to restore it first. Improving recovery times by many, many hours compared to standard replicated solutions.

 

 

 

For many companies centralising backups from multiple offices or departments is a difficult, time consuming and expensive task. From almost every aspect there are challenges, the answer traditionally being to send tapes off-site, an expensive and logistically difficult task.

 

There are of course several solutions available today however generally these require an overhaul of the entire company's backup software and structures, not something the average company wishes to perform or fund particularly after investing into the current applications which in most other area work well.

 

The RM2 is a new addition to id7's line of backup solutions and is designed to work in conjunction with your current applications automating the replication of local backups to a central site. For those requiring advanced DR ability the central site can further manage the backups and even create a clone to physical tape emulating the traditional process of sending a tape off-site, but using the WAN as the courier.
